What's The Difference?

What's The Difference?

You might be wondering what the difference is between Eau de parfum and parfum – and possibly how to pronounce them! Let’s get the latter clear first.

Eau De Parfum: O-duh PAR-fum. Easy, Oui?

Now, let’s discuss the difference between the two. One thing every perfume has in common is fragrance oil. But not all fragrance oils are the same. There is a wide range of concentration levels and quality levels. One way to know if the oil used in your perfume is of higher quality is by its price point. Cheaper fragrance oils are made with synthetic ingredients. They’re not only bad for the environment, but they can also cause serious irritation and allergic reactions to your skin.

We use Clean-Scent fragrance oils. They are safe for your skin and the environment. They have a higher concentration, meaning they’re not diluted with solvents. Higher concentration and quality oils also ensure a longer-lasting scent on your skin. This brings us to the question: what’s the difference between Eau De Parfum and Parfum?

Concentration levels. Which also means safety levels.

Parfums can have up to 40% fragrance oils in them. The average is 20 – 40 for Parfum. That’s a lot! It’s why your favorite, probably most expensive perfume lasts so long on your skin. Parfums often last 6 – 8 hours on the skin.

Eau De Parfums can last around 4 – 5 hours on the skin and have up to 20% fragrance oils in them. And this is due to safety standards. Fragrance oils are rated by their skin safety. There are strict standards for how much you can use in each product. And for good reason. If we used 40% of an EDP (Eau de parfum) rated oil in our blends, it could cause immense harm to our customers’ skin.

And now that you know the difference between EDP and Parfum, you can shop with confidence!
