how to layer fragrances (and why it’s so fun)

Layering fragrances is a sport at evrýs. We’re all about expressing individuality, and one of the most playful ways to do that is by blending what you already love. Go ahead—mix, match, and experiment. You might land on a combo you can’t live without.

What is layering Fragrances?

Layering fragrances is wearing two (or more) scents together so they mingle into something uniquely you. It can be as simple as a scented lotion under a perfume, or a boosting balm + spray, or even two light mists that overlap.

a few easy tips (no rules, just vibes)

  • start sheer. Apply the quieter scent first (oils, balms), then add the bolder spray on top. You can always add more; it’s harder to take away.
  • Think families. fresh + warm, floral + woody, citrus + cozy spice—contrast makes magic.
  • Skin first. Try on your wrists/inner elbow and give it 10–15 minutes to settle before deciding.
  • One room, one skin. Love candle layering too? Keep bolder candle blends in the room and simpler blends on your skin so they don’t compete.

Our go-to evrýs layers

These are tried-and-true blends from the Lab and our everyday wear:

  • the study roller + daze spray
leather/amyris grounded with gardenia, lime, vanilla—a confident floral with quiet depth.
  • sand & sol oil roller + the meadow spray
sea salt and coconut milk meet fresh grass and orange peel—ocean air through an open field.
  • cypress road spray + toasted spice oil roller
dry gin/Cypress lifted with cinnamon/vanilla warmth—a clean, cozy nightcap.

How to layer what you already own

  • Pair opposites: brighten smoky/woody scents with citrus or green notes.
  • Soften edges: add vanilla, coconut milk, or a skin-like musk base to tame sharp florals.
  • Go seasonal: lighter top notes (lime, orange peel) in warm weather; add spice/wood (cedar, clove) when it’s cooler.
  • Maintain balance: if one scent is loud, keep the second one quiet (use oil or balm instead of another strong spray).
